One trail to rule them all.
The dream that is coming true! Since this grandiose idea was dreamed up (probably in a local bar) it has gained an incredible amount of traction in a relatively short time. Grants have been secured allowing COGGS to purchase plenty of materials for boardwalks and even enough for two mini excavators and a canycom. The city of Duluth is fully on board and volunteers have been crawling out of the wood work! To get a better idea of the scope of the project visit the COGGS site.
Summer 2016 update. Another 19 miles has been added to the entire system!! 9 miles of freshies in Mission Creek. Nearly 5 miles connecting Brewer to Spirit Mountain! Enger park is now connected to Piedmont (nearly 4 miles worth of new trail)! The DT also now extends through Piedmont allowing for a fast, flowy and easy ride option in that notoriously rocky system. Even Chester Bowl got almost a mile’s worth!
Summer 2015 update. Another 16 or so miles have been added to the traverse this summer. New trail has come to fruition in Mission Creek, Enger park, and Hawk Ridge/Vermillion Road area. We are well on our way to seeing this project 80 – 90% done by the end of build season 2016!!!
Here are few write-ups on the DT:
